Who owns my mortgage? Servicer vs. investor
Transfer notices, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac look-ups, and a written request for information.
Find who owns your loan (servicer vs. investor)
The servicer collects payments; the investor owns the loan and its rules decide your options. You have a right to ask.
- 1
Check your statement and transfer notices
Servicers must send notice when servicing transfers (15 days before / after). A payment sent to the old servicer on time cannot be treated as late during the first 60 days.
- 2
Use the look-up tools
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac each have a public loan look-up (search “Fannie Mae loan lookup” / “Freddie Mac loan lookup”). FHA, VA and USDA loans say so on your closing papers.
- 3
Ask in writing
Send a request for information asking for the name, address and phone of the owner or assignee of the loan. The RESPA letter composer here writes it.
You search your own records. Techoclaro does not look up people.
