How to search Texas county real-property records
Find your deed of trust, assignments and any notice of sale filed with the county clerk.
Search the county clerk’s real-property records
Find your deed, deed of trust, assignments, substitute-trustee appointments and any notice of sale filed for your home.
- 1
Open your county clerk’s records search
Search the web for “[your county] county clerk official public records”. Use the county’s own site (.gov or the county’s vendor linked from it).
- 2
Search by the owner’s name
Type the last name as grantor/grantee. Narrow by date range around when you bought or refinanced.
- 3
Read the document types
Look for: Warranty Deed (your ownership), Deed of Trust (the loan), Assignment, Appointment of Substitute Trustee, Notice of Sale / Notice of Trustee’s Sale, Release.
- 4
Save copies and instrument numbers
Write down each instrument number and recording date; many clerks sell copies for a small fee. Add them to your papers in Techoclaro.
- 5
Check foreclosure postings
Texas counties must post filed notices of sale on their website with the date, time and place (Prop. Code § 51.002(f-1)). The Sales calendar here lists posted sales by county.
You search your own records. Techoclaro does not look up people.
